Bandemonium Music Society presents: Northern Lights
"Northern Lights" brings together two of Salt Spring Island’s community ensembles for an evening of big sounds, great tunes, and music to welcome the season. We are delighted, as well, to play host to the award-winning GISS Jazz Combo. The first half features the Swing Shift Jazz Orchestra, directed by John Whitelaw, as it takes the stage with the sound of the big band: saxophones, brass, rhythm section. A mixture of classic swing tunes, calypso, funk, and some fun winter holiday arrangements to bring light and cheer amid the winter darkness. Come out to the lobby to get some goodies and beverages during intermission and enjoy the sounds of the GISS Jazz Combo. After intermission, the Bandemonium Concert Band, a vibrant community ensemble made up of musicians from across Salt Spring Island. The program will range from seasonal favourites to selections from Gustav Holst’s monumental orchestral suite The Planets, arranged for concert band — including music from Mars and Jupiter.
